Aristotle Beyond the Academy

16 October 2024 - Edith Hall speaks at Durham University Classics & Ancient History Department Seminar

On Wednesday October 16th, 2024, ABA's very own Prof. Edith Hall gave a paper at the Durham University Classics & Ancient History departmental seminar series titled, “Aristotle in British Debates on the Constitution, Slavery, and Women”.

Providing the audience with a preview of the three chapters she has drafted so far for the project monograph - Aristotle Beyond the Academy in Britain and Ireland 1660-1922 - the room was packed out with familiar faces and many freshers.

We also had 40 virtual attendees showcasing that many interested people wanted a slice of Aristotle for their Wednesday lunchtime!

This was the first of the departmental theme seminar series this academic year at Durham taking us up to March's conference, "Explorations in the Public Reception of Aristotle".

The next date for your diaries at Durham is:

Nov 6th Dr Sophia Connell, “'Aristotle, analytic philosophy and the birth of ‘virtue ethics’”.
