From the Carnarvon and Denbigh Herald and North and South Wales Independent (28th August 1847) we learn that race horse Aristotle won the Maccaroni Stakes at the York race meeting on 18th August.

Was it the same Aristotle, then, who came third in the Liverpool Street ledger on 18th August 1878 (mentioned in the same newspaper)? This Aristotle’s performance appears less impressive when we read to the end of the entry…three horses ran.
